Poplar Valley Organic Farms is located in north eastern
central Saskatchewan on the 53rd parallel. The soil is fertile, the
air is clean, and there is an abundance of sunshine all year round.
The farmers living in our community are environmentally
conscious; a healthy lifestyle is of great importance to us. We
continue to experiment with new ideas in organic farming methods that work
to maintain the health and integrity of the land. This area is very
productive in legume crops (alfalfa, lentils, peas and clovers) which
produce many soil nutrients that help to fertilize the soil
naturally. This provides us with an endless opportunity for high
quality products without chemicals.
We are involved in organic farming because we are
committed to the simple philosophy that if the land is to sustain us, we
must sustain it.
Profile & Market
We have been growing organic crops on our
family farm since 1981. As more and more of the local farmers began
switching to organic farming, the need for a specialized marketing outlet
In 1989, we created Poplar Valley Organic
Farms Inc., our grain marketing company. Our reputation for
deliverying and assuring a reliable supply of consistently high quality
products is well known among our customers.
Our marketing and distribution system
includes the Americas and Europe.
A large range of products are available
through our company.
One of our most popular items is
flax. It is widely used for culinary and medicinal purposes.
Flax is very rich in both essential fatty acids (linoleic LA and linolenic
LNA). Research shows that the further north flax is grown the higher
it is in linolenic fatty acids.
In the agriculture industry, the high use
of chemicals has created environmental problems, such as harmful effects
to the land and to surface and run-off water. This deterioration in the
health of the land has created a loss of faith in farming practices.
Many people believe that the quality of food is diminished and has had a
negative impact on their health because of residual chemicals in the food
they eat. Therefore, the choice of sustainable and healthy farming
methods is our aim and makes good sense. Our customers appreciate the
resulting high quality, organic products.
